SAVED BY LOVE: HOW MY RESCUE DOGS GAVE ME A SECOND CHANCE

Thursday night, I was sitting in the garage smoking a cigarette. Terrible habit, I know. Four young men suddenly showed up, decided they wanted my car, beat me up, and demanded the keys. I told them the keys were inside the house. They chose to go in. What they didn’t expect were my two 80lb Pit Bulls. They are sweethearts—the kindest dogs you’ll ever meet—but they protect their home and owner with precision. My beautiful babies charged at them and stood by me as I lay on the garage floor, protecting me the entire time. They are rescues. Rejected dogs. They saved my life. Please consider adopting a rescue animal. They might save your life too.

While I was still trying to process what was happening, I heard the intruders screaming in panic inside the house. My dogs didn’t attack, but they cornered them with a firm and imposing stance. Their presence alone was enough to make the attackers retreat and run away, leaving everything behind. Once they fled—staggering and terrified—I managed to call the police. A few minutes later, a patrol arrived, and I was taken to the hospital with some bruises, but nothing serious. What stayed with me was the feeling of being born again. My dogs, once seen as worthless, gave me a second chance at life.

Today, I look at them with even more affection. They are more than pets—they are my heroes. I remember when I adopted them from the shelter: they were scared, skinny, and no one wanted to take them home. It only took a few days of love and care for them to become part of my family. Their loyalty is something words can’t fully describe. They didn’t hesitate to face danger for me. That’s why I make a point of sharing this story. Adopting an animal is an act of love—but sometimes, it’s also an unexpected way to save yourself.
